“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change"

Sessions
I ask clients to commit to weekly sessions of 50 minutes as research shows regular therapy is the most effective.
It is difficult to estimate how many sessions you might need. We will discuss this at your first appointment and have regular reviews to assess how our work together is progressing.
Fees
My fees are £50 per 50 minute session.
My Approach
My main theoretical approach is called psychodynamic. This means that I may not say much and may leave periods of silence for you to reflect and process the issues we have been working on. I may sometimes ask you about your childhood memories and experiences. This is because we often repeat patterns of behaviour and looking at the past can give us an increased understanding of the present.

My logo helps to illustrate my way of working. It shows a bird, called the Sankofa Bird with its body facing forward but its head turning back to where it has come from. Sankofa is a word which in the Twi language of Ghana means “Go back and get it”. We can’t change the past, but we can learn valuable lessons from it and gain increased understanding to help with current problems. Looking back at our younger selves and the difficulties we faced can also increase our compassion both to ourselves and to others.
In order to fully explore and uncover a client’s thoughts, feelings and unconscious processes, I use a variety of techniques and interventions, combining creativity with a psychodynamic model.
Our first appointment together will be an assessment session during which I will ask you about your current emotional state and your background. I will also ask you what you would like to gain from counselling. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and to express any concerns you may have.
In future sessions, we may work in a variety of ways, including, but not exclusively:
I am an approved DIT (Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy) practitioner and am accredited by the BPC - The British Psychoanalytic Council. DIT is a short-term (16 weeks) therapy which has been found to be particularly helpful for people with depression.
I am also a trained therapeutic group facilitator. Watch this space for news about Shelf Care - my brand new Therapeutic Book Group.
As a counsellor, it is my responsibility to ensure that I am working safely and ethically and this includes a commitment to ensure that I keep your personal information confidential. I am a registered, accredited member of the BACP – The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
